Yanshee
The open-source humanoid platform for hands-on AI and coding education
Yanshee is UBTech's open-source humanoid robot, purpose-built to bring AI and robotics education to life from the classroom to the research lab. Standing nearly 15 inches tall with 17 servo-driven joints, it walks, dances and even performs push-ups — every movement programmable. At its heart sits a full Raspberry Pi microcomputer running Raspbian, giving learners genuine access to the same open-source tools professionals use. An 8 MP camera, stereo speakers, microphone and a rich sensor suite — gyroscope, infrared, touch, pressure, temperature and humidity — support more than ten types of offline visual recognition, including face, object, colour and gesture recognition, alongside natural voice interaction. Learners progress seamlessly from Blockly block-based coding to Python, Java, C/C++ and Perl, while open APIs, GPIO, USB and HDMI interfaces and six sensor-expansion ports invite deep secondary development. Selected as a designated platform for professional skills competitions and backed by structured curriculum resources, Yanshee turns abstract concepts — computer vision, speech recognition and motion control — into experiments students can build, code and hold in their hands.
